White Praises Senate Passage of Infrastructure Funding
Legislation
Bill includes more than $100 million for flood protection
and mitigation
Harrisburg – State Senator Mary Jo White (R-21) today praised the Senate’s
passage of Senate Bill 2, the H20 PA Act. The legislation, unanimously approved
by the state Senate this week, would invest $800 million to meet Pennsylvania’s
critical water infrastructure needs, including drinking water and wastewater
treatment facilities, high hazard dams and flood protection and mitigation
projects.
White noted that the legislation includes at least $100 million for flood
protection and mitigation projects, but does not include Governor Rendell’s call
for a new tax on insurance premiums for home and business owners. Instead,
Senate Bill 2 relies upon revenue currently dedicated to the Gaming Economic
Development and Tourism Fund.
The Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee, chaired by Senator
White, also this week unanimously reported out Senate Bill 1408 and Senate Bill
1409. These bills were introduced at the request of the Department of
Environmental Protection (DEP) to provide DEP with additional flexibility to use
non-structural alternatives to implement flood protection measures.
